El Castillo de las Guardas
El Castillo de las Guardas, is a small village in the Corredor de la Plata region and its ten Dorp (little villages), here we will know the beauty of its places to the passage of the Guadiamar river.
We started our tour visiting the highest part of El Castillo de las Guardas. In the hill that crowns the town, we contemplate the remains of its old castle. A fortress of the thirteenth century, from where you can see the landscapes of dehesas and scrubland of the area.
We walk down to the parish church of San Juan Bautista, also built in the thirteenth century, on the remains of an old mosque and an Arab cemetery. A beautiful building of Mudejar construction, with Roman, Gothic and Renaissance elements.
Our steps take us to the stone fountain located in Roman Garcia Street, with its circular pile and a marble column in the center. In our journey we stopped to taste the typical sweet of the area ‘el Pinonate’; made with honey, completely handmade, it is a sweet memory to take us home.
For its great bullfighting tradition, another of the most significant images of the Castillo de las Guardas is its bullring, built of stone in the nineteenth century, its stand rises taking advantage
of the unevenness of the terrain.
